Rockfall claims five lives

Shimla, April 3
The higher reaches in tribal areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Pangi had another spell of heavy snowfall during the past 24 hours while the mid-hills, including the state capital, were lashed by hailstorm followed by showers, causing a sharp fall in temperature.

Avalanche threat loomed large over high altitude tribal areas following fresh snowfall and people in these areas had been advised to restrict outdoor movement.

Five Nepalese labourers were crushed to death by a rockfall in the Kunnu-Chharing area in tribal Kinnaur district last night.

The mighty Rohtang pass, the gateway to Lahaul valley and sprawling Dhauladhar ranges overlooking the Kangra valley also experienced heavy snowfall and cold wave conditions in adjoining valley areas. UNI, PTI
