Sonia writes to Advani over train incident
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 31
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has urged Deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani to ensure that VHP activists did not misbehave with fellow passengers while travelling in trains.

In a letter to Mr Advani, Mrs Gandhi drew his attention to the letter written to him by Mr Madhusudan Mistry, MP, over the “harassment’’ faced by some minority community members travelling to Delhi in the Ashram Express on March 26 and the Janta Express on March 27.

Mr Mistry, in his letter of March 28, had said that he had been approached by some passengers having tickets who had to face difficulties in the trains.

He said the VHP workers, who were going for a function to Delhi, threatened the passengers to do ‘Godhravali’ and forced the minority community members to say ‘Jai Shri Ram.’

Pointing out that VHP workers will return to Gujarat in a day or two, Mr Mistry called for adequate police presence in the trains in which they travel.

Endorsing Mr Mistry’s suggestions, Mrs Gandhi hoped in her letter that the Home Ministry, along with the Railway Ministry, will initiate necessary steps to ensure that no incidents occurred and legitimate passengers were not harassed.
