Ayodhya order a jolt to BJP New Delhi, March 31 However, the other main political parties welcomed the apex court order and urged the government to strictly implement it. The Congress tried to score a political point by stating that the dismissal of the Centre’s application vacating the stay on religious activity in the undisputed area indicated that the BJP led NDA government acted under pressure from the Sangh Parivar outfit. “The party wants that solution of the dispute—whether through courts or negotiations— should not be delayed and pending that Hindus should be allowed to carry on religious activities on the undisputed land,’’ BJP general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, briefing mediapersons here. Stating that he did not want to react to the apex court order, Mr Naqvi said the Centre’s move to vacate the stay was a positive step. The government should take steps to resolve the issue at the earliest through negotiations or by court, as any delay would not help the peace and communal harmony. Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said it had become clear now that the government had moved the Supreme Court on the issue under pressure from the Sangh Parivar. The Politburo of the CPM urged the government to implement the order on Ayodhya. The government, it said, instead of upholding an Apex Court direction in March last year that no part of the acquired land is transferred to anybody and no religious activities are permitted, had moved the court to vacate the order in ‘’blatant partisanship’. The BJP’s allies — the Samata Party and the Janata Dal (U) — said the government should ensure that status quo is respected by all concerned. |
