Pandya’s murder political: Cong

Gandhinagar, March 26
The main Opposition Congress in the Gujarat Assembly today demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder of BJP leader and former state minister Haren Pandya, alleging a political conspiracy behind it.

Leader of the Opposition Amarsinh Choudhary raised the issue of the alleged “political murder” of Pandya earlier in the day at Ahmedabad, soon after the post-lunch sitting began in the House at 2.30 p.m. He demanded a CBI inquiry into the crime.

Speaker Mangaldas Patel, however, said Mr Choudhary had not taken prior permission to raise this issue and went ahead with the proceedings by calling for the tabling of the freedom of religion Bill, 2003, which bans religious conversions in the state.

When Minister of State for Home Amit Shah started piloting the Bill, Congress members protested and raised slogans against the BJP government demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Congress MLA from Amreli Paresh Dhanani broke the microphone and hurled the pieces which fell on the Speaker’s podium. This was followed by all Opposition members trooping into the well of the House. UNI
