Chandigarh, March 14
Playing tough against reports of mass copying in various parts of Amritsar district, the Punjab Government today placed Mr Gurpartap Singh Guri, District Education Officer (Secondary), Amritsar, under suspension. The charge of his office has been given to his counterpart in the elementary wing with immediate effect.

Action against Mr Guri has been taken on the report submitted by Dr Kehar Singh, Chairman of the Punjab School Education Board to Education Minister, Mr Khushal Behl. The board authorities have been asked by Mr Behl to submit a detailed list of charges against the DEO to the government for initiating further action against him.

Informed official sources told TNS that following a follow-up report from the board, examination of various subjects would be cancelled at the centres from where reports of mass copying had been made available to the government by the board authorities. There are as many as 21 such examination centres in the Amritsar district alone.

Among these are Jabbowal, Patti, Ajnala, Chajjalwadi, Rayya, Chahereta, Ramdas, Katra (Amritsar), Chattiwind area (Amritsar), Khilchian, Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran, Valtoha, and Khemkaran.
