Mumbai, March 13
At least 11 commuters were killed and 65 others injured when a powerful explosion ripped through a women’s compartment and an adjoining bogie of a Karjat-bound local train tonight.

The explosion was so powerful that nearly all the victims were injured above the waist and the top of the compartments blew off, the police said.

Most of the injured were rushed to Mulund and Sion Hospital, some in a serious condition.

The explosion occurred at about 8.45 pm when the train entered platform No. 3 of Mulund Railway Station. The train was overcrowded with home-bound office commuters.

The injured were taken out of the compartment by people and rushed in waiting ambulances to hospitals. PTI
