Electoral system blamed for DSGMC corruption

The electoral system and the functioning of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has come in for harsh criticism from the Sikh intelligentsia. Participating in a seminar, “Gurdwara Committee - An Analysis”, organised by the Confederation of Sikh Organisations, the speakers expressed their dismay over the electoral system for choosing members to the committee, which, they opined, was the root cause for corruption in the DSGMC.

HC penalises bank for harassing ’84 riot victims

The Delhi High Court has imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 on the Union Bank of India for causing ‘profound agony’ for 18 years to two anti-Sikh riot victims in respect of recovery of interest on loan advanced to them under a subsidised scheme.

Masked men gain entry into nurses’ hostel 
Bhiwani:
Three masked men entered the nurses’ hostel here at about 8 last night. The trainee nurses, however, managed to lock the miscreants in a room. They later informed the police. It is alleged the police reached the spot in time but the miscreants managed to escape.

Rai, Jatheri to be developed as modern villages

Delhi courts to be computerised by May
New Delhi, March 12
Delhi courts are finally catching up with the IT revolution with their functioning expected to be fully computerised by May this year. The staff members at the courts are being imparted training under the guidance of computer training major NIIT, which has devised a 16-hour package, comprising eight sittings of two hours each.

Justice Shamim takes over as Lokayukta
New Delhi, March 12
Former Minorities Commission Chairman Justice (retd) Mohammed Shamim today took over as the second Lokayukta of Delhi. Justice Shamin succeeds Justice R. N. Aggarwal, who was appointed Delhi’s first Lokayukta in December 1997. The post had been lying vacant since Justice Aggarwal demitted office in November 2002.
