The Meerut police killed four kidnappers in an encounter on Saturday morning and rescued the kidnapped child, Abhinav. The incident occurred in fields of Jinjokhar village, 15 km from the district headquarters.

Livid villagers demand arrests in gangrape case
Sonepat, March 1
Livid over the indifferent attitude of the police in not arresting two of the three accused in a case of abduction, rape and murder of a young village girl, hundreds of residents, including women of Tajpur village, staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police last evening, demanding immediate arrest of the suspects.

The Delhi Budget should do away with populist measures like subsidies and all public utilities must be run on the principle of user paying for them, the PHDCCI today suggested to the state Finance Minister, Mr M. S. Saathi.

Rs 2.14 crore budget for Gohana MC
Sonepat, March 1
The Municipal Committee, Gohana, passed an annual budget of Rs 2.14 crore for the next financial year with a voice vote on Friday. Nine out of the 17 councillors were present at the meeting of the Municipal Committee. Interestingly, five of the seven women councillors were present in the meeting.

Mahashivratri was today celebrated with traditional fervour with devotees visiting temples in the Capital to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva. Special arrangements were made at the Chhattarpur temple, Shiv temple next to Hanuman Mandir at Connaught Place, Laxmi Narayan temple and Kalkaji temple where a large number of devotees offered prayers.
