USA bombs Iraqi cable relay sites

US warplanes bombed military communications sites in southern Iraq after the Iraqis fired anti-aircraft guns at US planes early today, US Central Command said. The US planes bombed six cable relay sites between Al-Kut, about 95 miles south-east of Baghdad, and Basra, about 245 miles south-east of Baghdad, the Central Command said in a statement.

The airstrikes came after Iraqis fired anti-aircraft artillery at the US warplanes patrolling the no-fly zone over southern Iraq, the statement said. AP
