Several members of the board had already been arrested. In the FIR it had been alleged that the accused ignored merit and out of turn appointments were made after taking bribes from undeserving candidates. Mr Sandhu along with his counsels appeared in the court at about 10 am and gave an application that the applicant was ready to join the investigations. He also gave a copy of the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court requiring him to present himself in the trial court today. The bureau was informed about his application and the DSP, Vigilance, appeared in the court before lunch. Mr Sandhu recorded his statement in the court that he undertook to produce himself at 4 pm at the Vigilance Bureau Office, Phase 8, Mohali today and comply with the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after February 20, 2003. Meanwhile, Mr Sandhu, while talking to The Tribune in the court complex, said he had returned from the USA yesterday. He said he went to the USA in connection with a family function last year and a false case had been registered against him in his absence. A large number of his supporters were present in the judicial complex when Mr Sandhu arrived here. |
