Hurriyat’s Delhi office
closed New Delhi, February 9 The move came after the landlord forced them to vacate the premises in Malviya Nagar where the Hurriyat was having its office under the name of Kashmir Awareness Bureau. Earlier, the Delhi police was also planning to move the court for the closure of the office. The 25-party conglomerate was yesterday served the notice to vacate the premises. It said it was uncertain whether they would open their office anywhere else in the Capital. On Thursday the Delhi police special cell sleuths arrested two Hurriyat leaders Anjum Zamrooda Habib and Shabir Dar, its spokesman in Delhi, for allegedly receiving funds from the Pakistan High Commission for the separatist amalgam. Even the VHP and the Bajrang Dal activists had held a demonstration in front of the office yesterday and demanded that the premises be vacated. However, Hurriyat chief spokesman Sheikh Abdul Rashid said here on telephone from Srinagar that the final decision on closing down of the office or shifting it to another venue would be taken tomorrow at an extraordinary executive meeting in the summer capital of the restive state. He said the house owner of the Delhi office was pressurised by the government and the VHP activists to ask the Hurriyat to vacate its premises. Rashid said VHP activists harassed and threatened the amalgam officials and put a warning notice asking the house owner to vacate the Hurriyat office “This is just a provocation to further complicate the issue,” he added. The separatist conglomerate was running the Kashmir Awareness Bureau from the ground floor of Enclave, Malviya Nagar in South Delhi. It was opened in November, 1995. The Hurriyat executive meeting discussed the Delhi developments and resolved “not to be cowed down by such repressive measures and continue the march towards the goal.” |
