Tribune News Service

Amritsar, January 20
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau booked another former Akali Minister, Dr Rattan Singh Ajnala for having assets, disproportionate to his known source of income.

According to an FIR Dr Ajnala had purchased property vehicles and house at Ajnala and Amritsar in the names of his two sons — Amarpal Singh and Parmpal Singh and wife, Dr Avtar Kaur.

The police raided the house of Dr Ajnala, former Animal Husbandry Minister. Nobody could be arrested as he along with his sons reportedly have gone underground.

Mr T.P.S. Sandhu, SP (Vigilance) said that the police was collecting information from the Revenue Department on the property he acquired during his tenure as minister in the Akali government.

Dr Ajnala has already moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court for revamping the Vigilance Bureau.

The sources said that Dr Ajnala has purchased at least 20 acres of agricultural land in Ballarwal village, in Ajnala tehsil, three cars — Honda City, Zen, Maruti 800 and a tractor after joining the Akali cabinet.

The sources pointed out that Dr Ajnala had also purchased National Saving Certificates apart from fixed deposits in different banks.

The case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
