The Indian intelligence and security managers are facing a grave challenge of the hitherto-unknown kind — the most active terrorist outfit in India, Lashkar-e-Toiba, is turning global like Al-Qaida. Credible information is already available with the Government of India that LeT, riding on the wave of support from Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), is spreading its wings outside Pakistan.

A trend, which is catching up fast in the Malwa region of Punjab, particularly in this district, is that farmers have taken to horse-breeding in a big way to supplement their income after finding it difficult to make both ends meet by earning enough from their farms.

Dwindling interest of cinegoers, because of the easy availability of the latest films through numerous TV channels and CDs and the existing “faulty” tax structure, has forced the closure of almost half of the cinema houses of Jalandhar, once known to be the cinema capital of Punjab, and of about 20 per cent of the theatres of the state.
