Shaheedi Jor Mela begins

Fatehgarh Sahib, December 25
The three-day annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, held in memory of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh who were buried alive in a brick wall here, began with an akhand path at Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup here today.

Lakhs of devotees paid their obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Jyoti Swarup. “Dewans” were organised in all gurdwaras.

Punjab Finance Minister Lal Singh inaugurated an exhibition organised by government departments, depicting various achievements of the state government.

The Public Relation Department also organised a light and sound programme at Aam Khas Bagh, Sirhind, in the evening. It will continue till the end of the mela.

SGPC President Kirpal Singh Badungar reached Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to take stock of the arrangements.

Hundreds of langar have been organised.

Nihangs have started converging on Gurdwara Beevangarh Sahib near Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib.

The SGPC has arranged a “Dewan” at Todar Mal Hall where preachers, ragis and dhadi jathas will sing devotional songs and give an account of the Sikh history, and infuse “beer ras”.

Tomorrow will be the day of political conferences. UNI
