CBI to press for extradition of Anees New Delhi, December 25 Breaking his silence over the ‘farce’ enacted by the Dubai authorities of reportedly releasing Anees, one of the main accused in 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, Mr Sharma told PTI in an interview that the agency would “continue pressing for his deportation or extradition.” He was replying to a question on what would be the role of the CBI vis-a-vis Anees, who had reportedly been deported to Pakistan. “We have not received any information from the Dubai authorities so far and we presume that he (Anees) is still in their custody,” Mr Sharma, who came under severe media attack recently, said. The CBI Director was defending his agency’s stand to send the extradition request despite reports that the Dubai authorities had given bail to Anees and later deported him to Pakistan. “So far, we have received only one communication from Interpol Abu Dhabi that states that an Indian national identified as Anees Ibrahim has been detained. Hence, the CBI may forward an extradition request for the same,” he said and added this communication puts an end to media reports that Anees was arrested by the Dubai police on some murder charges. “Our officer had been told by the Dubai police that Anees was detained because of Red Corner notice,” he said.
