Kharar, December 12
Mr Roshan Lal Chouhan, Judicial Magistrate, here today remanded Mr Arvinderpal Singh Sandhu (PCS) in police remand till December 14, who surrendered himself in the court today in connection with the fake arms licence scam which took place in Amritsar district.

The same court had declared him a proclaimed offender.

Earlier, Mr Jatinderjit Singh Punn, Public Prosecutor, said the accused at that time was posted as General Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner in Amritsar when the scam took place. He said information was yet to be collected from the accused about the other accused and about the involvement of gun houses in the scam.

The defence counsel on the other hand refuted the charges and said a fake case had been registered against the accused.

Mr Sandhu, son-in-law of jailed former Ferozepore SSP Gurcharan Singh Pherurai, was produced in the court at around 2.30 p.m.

Of the two other PCS officers, involved in the scam Jagir Singh, suspended from the post of Malout Sub-Divisional Magistrate, was arrested a day after the registration of the case and has since been released on bail. The other officer, L.D. Hans, who has since retired, is still evading arrest.

Besides these officers, two government clerks Sunil Kumar, posted at Tarn Taran SDM office, and Ashok Kumar, under suspension at Ferozepore Deputy Commissioner’s office have also been arrested in the case.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered a case under various sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
