Sekhawat inaugurates utsav

Kurukshetra, December 11
Mr Bhairon Singh Sekhawat, Vice-President of India, today gave a clarion call to the residents of Kurukshetra and especially Haryanvis to revive the glory of the land of the Mahabharata and its values in order to provide guidance to the country.

Mr Sekhawat, who was here to inaugurate the Gita Jayanti — Mahabharata Utsav on the banks of the Brahm Sarovar told the Haryana Chief Minister that he was prepared to go to every village falling in the periphery of Kurukshetra to motivate people to cultivate and preach the message of “work culture” which is enshrined in the Sirimad Bhagwad Gita.

The Vice-President hoped that if the glory, culture and the tradition of Kurukshetra was revived, it would help in solving most of the problems facing the nation. The Vice-President wanted that Kurukshetra should be recognised on the international map both to attract tourists and for imbibing the message of the Gita.

Mr Jag Mohan, Union Tourism Minister stated that the basic idea behind the development of Kurukshetra was to spread the concept of work culture, contained in the Gita, from Mahabalipuram to Kashmir.

The Haryana Governor, Babu Parmanand, lauded the efforts of the Kurukshetra Development Board and the Union Tourism Ministry for the development of Kurukshetra.

The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, said the works being undertaken at Kurukshetra to revive its glory would provide new recognition to the town on the international tourism map. He stated that the utsav was being celebrated with the efforts of Mr Jag Mohan for underlining the significance of Kurukshetra.

The Vice-President witnessed the “Samar Manthan of the Mahabharata presented by the artistes from the five cultural centres of India under the guidance of Mr Bansi Dhar.
