Communal clash in UP village

Moradabad, November 21
A clash between BJP and Congress workers sparked off arson and violence by members of two communities in a village of this district prompting the authorities to deploy the Provincial Armed Constabulary to maintain law and order, the police said today.

Trouble started when supporters of BJP legislator Sarvesh Kumar and former Congress MLA Mohmmedullah clashed yesterday over a minor accident near the bus stand of Ratupura village, Superintendent of Police Sadhana Goswami told reporters.

Soon members of the two communities clashed setting ablaze 12 thatched houses nearby and beat up locals, she said.

Later, one group led by Congress workers held a demonstration before the police station demanding action against perpetrators of violence.

Cross FIRs have been lodged and one person detained in connection with the violence, she said, adding that additional police and two sections of the PAC had been deployed in the village. PTI
