Punjab cops ‘kidnap’ Sikh judicial panel member Amritsar, October 29 The incident comes close on the heels of the crucial annual poll of the SGPC scheduled for November 12. Mr Kirpal Singh Badungar, SGPC chief, alleged that Mr Dara Singh was being pressurised to help disqualify six SGPC members belonging to the Badal faction against whom a petition was filed today. However, Mr Dara Singh reportedly refused to act in a partisan manner. Shopkeepers and security guards on duty at the Sikh Judicial Court confirmed that Mr Dara Singh had been taken away to an unknown destination by police in plainclothes. The police parked its vehicles a few yards from the judicial complex, a few yards from the SSP, IG and DC offices here. Earlier, Mr Harminder Singh Gill, President, AISSF and a close confidant of Mr G.S. Tohra, had filed petitions against five SGPC members loyal to Mr Badal wherein their disqualification as SGPC member was sought. It may be mentioned that Capt Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister, had scrapped a notification of the Badal government in order to instal the old commission including Mr Dara Singh. However, Mr Dara Singh had refused to oblige the state government. Mr Kashmir Singh Patti, Chairman, Judicial Commission, feigned ignorance about the kidnapping. Senior police officials, including Mr G.S. Sahota, DIG, said they were not aware of the incident. However, sources said that Mr Dara Singh could be falsely implicated in a case. |
