7 Pak intruders killed, SPO abducted Jammu, October 17 A Defence Ministry source said the moment troops spotted a large group of militants trying to sneak into the Indian territory from across the Angan Pathri area they opened fire killing five infiltrators on the spot. The source said other members of the group, however, managed to sneak into Pakistani side the moment troops surrounded them. According to the source, Pakistani troops tried to provide fire cover to the intruders but the retaliatory steps taken by Indian troops silenced the Pakistani gunners. SRINAGAR: Six persons, including three militants, were killed, while a Special Police Officer (SPO) was abducted in separate incidents in Baramula district of North Kashmir on Thursday, official sources said. Three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with troops of the 29 Rashtriya Rifles at Titran village, the sources said adding that some arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain ultras. Militants shot dead two persons Ghulam Hassan Gujjar and Abdullah Gujjar at the residence of Abdul Hamid, an SPO working with the SOG of the local police, in the Bandipora area, the sources said adding that the ultras later abducted the officer and took him to an unknown destination. In another incident in the same area, militants shot dead a girl identified as Perveena Akhter in her house, the sources added. Meanwhile, a gunfight between militants and security forces has been going on in Bapora forest in Bandipora till the report last came in. Two Army personnel, Pradeep Singh and Ajit Takhur, were killed when militants fired at a security force patrol at Doodipora in Kupwara district, an official spokesman said. The spokesman said a Lashker-e-Toiba militant and a security force jawan were killed in another gunfight at Mala village in Jammu region’s Udhampur district. JAMMU: An Army vehicle was badly damaged when militants triggered a blast in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning, official sources said. The casualties suffered by jawans travelling in the vehicle were not immediately known, they said. The vehicle was going to Surrankote when ultras hiding on a hilltop overlooking the road blasted an IED planted on the road at Bonikhet between Behramgala and Surrankote, they said. Security personnel were rushed to the spot and a search operation was on to nab the militants, the sources said. The security forces shot dead two intruders near the LOC in Poonch district and defused an IED in Rajouri district on Wednesday evening, official sources said here on Thursday. They said security forces saw two persons moving in a suspicious manner near the LOC at Pathar Dhok in Poonch district and asked them to stop. However, the duo kept on moving, prompting the troops open fire in which both of them were killed, the sources said. The slain intruders were probably guides who had sneaked from across the border as an advance party, the sources said adding that search was continuing in the area to track down their accomplices present in the area. Meanwhile, the security forces detected an IED on a road in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri district on Wednesday evening which was promptly defused by the bomb disposal squad, the sources added. |

Gupta accuses Congress of hungering after power
Jammu, October 17 “The people have voted for change but the manner in which the Congress and others are behaving is not unexpected because Congress leaders were never sincere to the verdict of the people and for them it is just ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’ (a matter of coming into power),” Mr Gupta said addressing party workers at Jandi and other border areas in Kathua district. “Keeping in view all these developments, anyone can visualise that the new Assembly will not last long,” he said and asked his party workers to be ready to serve the people. Accusing the Congress and the National Conference of encouraging terrorism, regional tensions and other such problems in the state, the BJP leader said “hence no good can be expected from them even in future because of their regional and communal bias”. He also cautioned party workers about the recent developments in Pakistan and said the responsibilities of nationalist forces in Jammu and Kashmir have rather increased to meet any challenge notwithstanding the setback to the BJP in the Assembly elections. He said “the success of fundamentalist and extremist forces in ‘manipulated’ elections in Pakistan had added to the dangers of terrorism and subversive activities being engineered from across the border”.
