Police reviews Sharma’s interrogation report
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, October 7
The Delhi police crime branch today reviewed the interrogation report of former Haryana IG (Prisons) R.K. Sharma, the main accused in the murder case of journalist Shivani Bhatnagar. The accused, presently in the custody of the crime branch, is yet to confess anything, even as the sleuths grilled him in various ways over the past few days.

The police will produce Sharma in court on Tuesday and will press for the extension of his remand. He had told the officials that he knew the other accused in police custody. He is yet to provide any statement about his involvement in the crime.

The police will plead for further remand of the accused on the ground that he had to be taken to some places to prove his involvement and also to confront him with the other accused. The sleuths continue with their interrogation and are resting on the confessional statement to prove his involvement in the case.

Despite Sharma being intensely subjected to psychological tests and other special methods by the crime branch, the senior Haryana cadre IPS officer is yet to reveal the conspiracy behind the murder, which will nail him as the main accused in the case.

Although he had agreed during the interrogation that he was in touch with Shivani in professional matters, he remained tight-lipped whenever there was any query about his involvement with Shivani on the personal front.

The police are also looking at the source of the funds used in the murder. According to them, about Rs three lakh was given to the contract killers for the alleged murder. The police has also sent teams to Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Mumbai to find out the source of the funds.

Meanwhile, commuters passing through the area around the Adarsh Nagar police station, where Sharma is being interrogated, are having a harrowing time as the police station is most of the time crowded with print and electronic media personnel, with inquisitive public also gathered there.
