Pandove is PPSC member

Mr M.P. Pandove, eminent sportsperson and Administrator, has been appointed member of the Punjab Public Service Commission. His appointment as member, according to informed sources, was cleared today by the Punjab Governor, Leiut-Gen J.F. R. Jacob (retd).

Mr Pandove, at present posted as Chief Auditor, Directorate of Cooperative Audit, Punjab, is a first eminent sportsperson to be appointed as member of the PPSC. He will put in his papers on the next working day, that is Tuesday. He is expected to take oath as member of the PPSC either on Wednesday or Thursday.

He became a member of the Punjab cricket team and represented the state in the Ranji Trophy when he was just 18 in 1963. And he continued to represent the state for 16 years. He also remained captain of the team for five years.

Mr Pandove, who has been honorary secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association for the past 21 years, has also been Chairman of the National Selector Committee from 1992-1995 to select the youth team.

He was also a senior national selector and had a say in deciding the national team. He also worked as member of the various committees such as technical committee, umpires committee and junior cricket committee of the Cricket Control Board of India.

Mr Pandove, who played a major role in the development of cricket in this part of the country especially in Punjab, made a significant contribution in bringing up the world famous cricket stadium at Mohali. He did L.L.B from Punjabi University Patiala, and stood first in the university in Law of Torts. Earlier, he did masters in political science from Panjab University Chandigarh.

Born on November 18, 1945, Mr Pandove, who hails from Patiala, was to retire from the Cooperative Department next year.

The slot of member in the PPSC had become available a few days ago following the elevation of the Leiut-Gen Surjit Singh Sangra (retd) as Chairman of the PPSC. He was earlier appointed member of this organisation.
