Bhucho Mandi (Bathinda), September 29
A man kills his wife, digs a pit in his house and places the body in it. The pit is concealed by making a concrete flooring. Stairs are constructed over the spot to evade the detection of the crime.

This is not a scene of Bollywood crime thriller but the sequence of a crime committed by a resident of this town, Amarjit Singh in connivance with his sister-in-law, Malkeet Kaur in January this year.

The police authorities, which were suspecting some foul play in the mysterious disappearance of Paramjit Kaur about eight months ago, today succeeded in tracing the crime and dug out the skeleton from the backyard of the house of the accused. Amarjit Singh after committing the crime sold off the house. Both the accused were living at some other place.

Police sources said Amarjit Singh, who was married about 20 years ago, fell in love with his sister-in-law, Malkeet Kaur, who was married at Maur Mandi. About four years ago, Malkeet Kaur started visiting Amarjit Singh here. She left her in-laws’ house at Maur Mandi and started living with Amarjit Singh in his house a few months ago.

A daughter was subsequently born from their illicit relationship though Amarjit Singh was already the father of two grown-up children.

Amarjit Singh and Malkeet Kaur hatched a conspiracy to kill Paramjit Kaur, who had been raising objection to their relationship.

On suspecting some foul play in the disappearance of Paramjit Kaur, a case under Sections 364 and 120-B of the IPC was registered against Amarjit Singh and Malkeet Kaur in Nathana police station in January.

The body was dug our this evening. A team of two doctors from Civil Hospital, went to Bhucho Mandi to supervise the digging operation. Civil Hospital sources said the skeleton would be sent to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, for forensic examination. Police sources said if it was proved that the skeleton was of deceased Paramjit Kaur, a case under Section 302 of the IPC for murder would be registered against Amarjit Singh and Malkeet Kaur.
