39 judicial officers removed

Chandigarh, September 27
The Punjab Government today removed 39 PCS (Judicial) officers from service in compliance with the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Official sources said the officers of the 1999, 2000 and 2001 batches recruited during the tenure of Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu as PPSC Chairman had been removed. However, a back reference had been prepared in the case of 1998 batch of such officers. The reference would be sent to the Punjab and Haryana High Court tomorrow to seek certain clarifications and make certain queries in respect of the 1998 batch because there was no “tainted” officer in that batch.

The high court in the second week of August had directed the state government to remove 57 judicial officers of the four batches.

In the 39 officers removed today, 21 were serving while the remaining 18 had been offered appointment letters by the state government a few months ago but had not joined. The sources said the appointment letters to the 18 officers had been withdrawn today and their names were also removed from the register concerned.
