Diplomatic efforts to bring back Abu Salem
New Delhi, September 22
Abu Salem The CBI will soon send a team to Lisbon to bring back underworld don Abu Salem. CBI Director P.C. Sharma today indicated that a team would leave for Lisbon in a day or two to make efforts to get Salem deported to India.

Srinagar, September 22
As militants intensify anti-poll operations in the valley, security agencies have nearly formalised their defenses for the second phase of elections due on September 24. In all, 1007 polling booths have been set up for 10 Assembly segments of Srinagar and five segments of Budgam which will go to polls in the second phase.

Senior functionaries of the state police, BSF and CRPF held separate meetings in Srinagar and Jammu today to formulate a strategy to ensure an incident-free polling in these constituencies.

Blast kills 16 in Hardoi
Lucknow, September 22
A blast ripped a three-wheeler near Madhavganj in Hardoi district, killing 14 persons (16 according to PTI) on the spot and injuring four others. The injured have been shifted to the district hospital where their condition is stated to be serious.

Gang selling kidneys busted

The “toothless” Authorisation Committee, headed by the Principal, Government Medical College, is under a cloud as the local police has busted the biggest gang so far, “selling kidneys”. The police has arrested 14 persons, including donors, middlemen and musclemen, in this connection.
