Bathinda, September 20
The police has arrested Dara Singh, brother of ‘human bomb’ Jarnail Singh (now in Ahmedabad jail) and seized one AK-56 rifle, three magazines, 150 cartridges, one hand grenade of H.E. 69 make and 50 cartridges of .30 bore ammunition.

Police sources said the recovery of weapons and other explosives was made following a disclosure by Dara Singh. Dara Singh had buried those weapons and explosives on the outskirts of Phulokhari village, bordering Haryana, where Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) is setting up a mega refinery.

In a press note issued here today, Mr Ishwar Singh, SSP, said that Jarnail Singh was arrested by the Bathinda police and two AK-56 rifles, three pistols, 12 kg of RDX, a number of cartridges, six hand grenades and other material required for making bombs were seized from him in 2000.

The weapons and other explosives seized from Dara Singh were given to him by Jarnail Singh. Dara Singh hid them in the area falling under Sangat police station.

Information gathered by TNS revealed that Jarnail Singh, who was one of the “human bombs” who entered India from Pakistan through the Ferozepore border in December 1999 and January 2000, was planning to kill political figures, including the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Jarnail Singh, who got intensive training in Pakistan in arms and ammunition, was arrested by the police from Jaipur, Rajasthan. A school dropout, Jarnail Singh became a “human bomb” for only Rs 15,000 at the instance of another Pakistan-based terrorist, Didar Singh, alias Dari. He underwent two months’ training with 10 others at a camp located near Lahore.

Bakhshish Singh Shisha, a supplier of firearms and narcotics to terrorists, took Jarnail Singh and eight others to Pakistan for training in the handling of arms and ammunition. Jarnail Singh managed to enter India with the help of Shisha.

Jarnail Singh, who is facing trial in a number of cases, is now lodged in a Ahmedabad jail in connection with a case pertaining to the seizure of firearms from him.

The SSP said a case in connection with the arrest of Dara Singh had been registered under Section 25 of the Arms act and Section 4 of the Explosive Act in Sangat police station.
