Home Dept frames charges against Ravi Kant
Tribune News Service

Panchkula, September 20
Finally tightening the noose around suspended IG Ravi Kant Sharma, the Haryana Home Department is believed to have drawn up a charge sheet against him. Sharma, the main suspect in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, has been on the run since August 2.

The charge sheet was reportedly framed on September 18 and has subsequently been forwarded to the Chief Minister, Haryana, for approval. Once approved, the charge sheet will be served at his Sector 6 residence here.

Well placed sources inform that Ravi Kant has been charge-sheeted mainly for being unauthorisedly absent from duty. Following the Delhi police swooping down at his residence on August 2, the IG had gone on a 10-day leave. After his leave expired on August 12, he has so far failed to rejoin duty.

It is learnt that other charges against Ravi Kant include ‘‘...non-cooperation with the police; not joining investigations as under the provisions of the law; and, not behaving like an officer.’’

Sources say once the charge sheet against the suspended IG is approved by the Chief Minister, an Investigating Officer will be appointed to prepare a report. With this, Ravi Kant is in for major penalties by the state government. The framing of charges against Ravi Kant by the Home Department also means that there will be no amnesty for the cop from the Chautala regime.
