Chief Minister Narendra Modi today kissed a sword and kicked off his much-publicised and thrice-postponed Gujarat gaurav yatra here today, slamming the Congress for “creating obstacles and maligning the image of the state the world over.”

Unlike Pervez, Vajpayee to keep low profile

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is expected to launch a diplomatic tirade against New Delhi over the Kashmir issue in the USA. But surprisingly, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is likely to keep a low profile in the USA. Indications here are that Mr Vajpayee would pack all his Pakistan-centric arguments in his September 13 address before the United Nations’ General Assembly which will be a day after General Musharraf’s address.

Upstream water thefts dry up tail end
HISAR:
Once its pride, Haryana’s canal systems have virtually collapsed, thanks to an estimated four lakh cases of theft of water by farmers annually. As a result the tail-ends all over the state continue to be dry although there is adequate water available at channel heads, the present drought conditions notwithstanding.
