Life after 9/11

  • Never before was I so conscious of my ‘foreigner’ status
  • US society has not turned cynical
  • There is fear in the air
  • I realised I was an outsider and always will be one
  • I was careful not to make jokes in public
  • The INS now closely watches records of alien students
  • For some time, I felt very insecure
  • One feels as if one is in a police state
  • Indians enjoy a lot of goodwill in the USA
  • We face a new set of challenges

HE star turnout at the press conference for the film Agni Varsha was almost 100 per cent, barring the Big B, who makes a special appearance in the period drama. But the innumerable questions fielded by scribes about Bachchan’s role in the film made sure that he made his absence felt.
