ICC bows to players
Denies seeking payment from BCCI

London, September 6
The International Cricket Council today announced that it had reached an agreement with top Indian cricketers which would pave the way for their participation in next week’s mini World Cup in Colombo, but intriguingly added that the Board of Control for Cricket in India had now issued a directive not to negotiate with Indian players any longer.

Barely hours before leaving for New Delhi to hold the second round of talks with the Kashmir Committee, Hurriyat Chairman Abdul Gani Bhat, his senior amalgam colleague Moulvi Abbas Ansari and Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah were put under the house arrest.

No free power to agriculture in Punjab

The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission’s tariff order today effected a 8 per cent to 11 per cent hike across the board for all categories of consumers, withdrew the provision of “free’’ power available to agriculture for operation of tubewells, since February, 1997, and slashed “free” electricity to the Scheduled Castes to 50 units per month with a connected loads up to 300 watts against 1,000 watts earlier.
