New Delhi, September 4
Having failed to get a favourable court verdict, actress Manisha Koirala today moved the National Commission for Women (NCW), seeking its intervention to stop the screening of “Ek Chhoti Si Love Story”.

Accusing producer Shashilal Nair of “breach of contract”, the actress indicated that she could also move the Supreme Court on the issue.

Koirala has alleged that in some scenes of the film, her body double had been used to depict her in an “obscene and indecent manner”.

After meeting the full commission headed by Chairperson Purnima Advani, Koirala said: “It is not only about me but the incident addresses a larger issue of the dignity of women. If this can happen to me, I can understand the plight of a common woman.”

She circulated a letter claiming to be from Nair which read “in regard to the film, ‘Ek Chhoti Si Love Story’, this is to inform you that a portion of the film has been shot with a duplicate which involves a certain level of physical exposure. If you have any objection to any particular section, we stand to replace it with alternative shots.”

Agreeing with Manisha that some shots as shown in the posters damaged the dignity of a woman, Ms Advani said: “The commission will take up the matter under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act and ensure that all efforts are made to stop the screening of the movie.”

The NCW plans to hold consultation with women NGOs and Koirala here on Friday to address the larger issue of indecent representation of women in the media.

PTI adds from Mumbai: Koirala on Wednesday filed an appeal in the Mumbai High Court, challenging its earlier order rejecting her plea to delete obscene scenes from the controversial film

The appeal is expected to come up for hearing before a Division Bench tomorrow.
