BJP stages dharnas against ‘vindictive’
government Hoshiarpur, September 3 Addressing the gathering, Mr Sud, Mr Kishore, Mr Nakra and others criticised the state government for implicating many leaders of the BJP and the SAD in “false” cases. Later, they presented two memoranda from the rural and urban mandals of the district unit to the Deputy Commissioner for forwarding these to the Punjab Governor. The Governor has been urged to tell the Capt Amarinder Singh government to stop the victimisation of rival leaders and restart development work. SUNAM: Activists of the local unit of the BJP, on a call given by the party’s state high command, staged a dharna in front of the SDM’s office here on Tuesday to press the administration for the acceptance of their demands, including the withdrawal of “false” cases registered against their leaders. They also organised a rally, which was addressed, among others, by Mr Malwinder Bhardwaj, media adviser, Punjab BJP. He said the Congress had adopted the policy of repression and had failed to fulfil promises made to the people before the elections. Mr Prem Gugnani, general secretary of the local BJP unit, Mr Raj Gera and Mr Pawan Chhabria, both senior leaders of the BJP, Mr Ram Karan and Major Singh of the Punjab Kisan Morcha, BJP, also spoke on the occasion. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Mr Parminder Singh Gill, SDM. BATHINDA:
The district unit of the BJP on Tuesday staged a dharna near the office of the Deputy Commissioner in protest against the “failure” of the state government to provide basic facilities to residents of Punjab. Office-bearers of the district unit said they would work for the ouster of the Congress government as it had failed to do anything for the welfare of the people. They alleged that in the name of fighting corruption, the ruling party in Punjab was harassing leaders of opposition parties. Mr Gulzar Singh, district unit president, said the Congress had not kept the promises made during the election campaign. Mr Narinder Mittal, mandal unit president, said the Congress government had stopped giving funds for welfare schemes started by the previous BJP-SAD government. FAZILKA: The local urban and rural blocks of the BJP, led by Mr Surjit Kumar Jayani,a former MLA, took out a procession in protest against the “oppressive” policies of the Congress government on Tuesday and staged a rally before the SDM’s office. The BJP activists raised slogans against the Punjab Government. AMRITSAR: Workers of the district unit of the BJP on Tuesday staged mandal-level dharnas against the alleged anti-people policies of the state government in the five zones here. Ms Laxmi Kanta Chawla, a former BJP MLA, led the party activists who staged a dharna on the Dhap Khatika road while Dr Baldev Raj Chawla headed the party workers staging a dharna in the Dharam Singh market. Ms Chawla said the Congress government had failed on all fronts. She alleged that development works started by the previous Akali-BJP government had been stopped. In a
memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, she urged the Governor to restrain the state
government from implicating opposition party leaders in “false” corruption cases. PATHANKOT: Local BJP workers on Tuesday staged a dharna in front of the SP’s office here in protest against the “anti-people” policies of the Capt Amarinder Singh government. The dharna was addressed, among others by Mr Satish Mahajan, president municipal council, Mr Ashwani Kumar, general secretary in the BJP’s Gurdaspur unit, and Mr Jatinder Dev Sharma, president of the local unit of the BJP. workers also staged dharnas here on Tuesday in protest against the Congress government’s “anti-employee” policies. ROPAR:
The district unit of the BJP, led by Mr Kasturi Lal Verma, vice-president, on Tuesday sat on dharna in the district administrative complex here in protest against the “vindictive” stance of the Capt Amarinder Singh government towards SAD-BJP leaders and its failure to continue with various welfare schemes launched by the previous government. TARN TARAN: BJP workers of the local mandal on Tuesday staged a dharna here in front of the SDM’s office in protest against the alleged repressive and vengeful policies of the Congress government. The district unit of the BJP on Tuesday staged a dharna outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner here in protest against the alleged anti-people policies of the Congress government. The organising secretary of the state unit of the BJP, Mr Avinash Jaiswal, addressing party workers, alleged that instead of initiating development works and launching new welfare schemes, the Congress regime had withdrawn benefits given to employees and various sections of society during the SAD-BJP rule. LUDHIANA: Terming SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal as a “Jan Nayak”, the Punjab BJP has warned the Capt Amarinder Singh government of a mass agitation in case the former Chief Minister is arrested on “trumped-up” charges. This was stated by state BJP chief Brij Lal Rinwa while addressing a rally of party workers here today. The party units held rallies at five places in the city — Tajpur road, near Shingar cinema, Jawahar Nagar Camp, Basti Jodhewal and the Sherpur market.
