Hearing on caretaker govt in Gujarat on Sept 17
New Delhi, September 2
Observing that Gujarat is not an issue before the apex court as the Election Commission has decided to hold the Assembly elections in the state in November-December, the five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court said today that it could not give its opinion on the presidential reference before the October deadline for reconstituting the dissolved Gujarat Assembly.

APHC decides not to suspend People’s Conference

The separatist Hurriyat Conference here today dropped plans to suspend its constituent, the People’s Conference, on the issue of support to some candidates contesting the ensuing Assembly elections in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

Bid to kill Farooq’s brother

Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Industries and brother of Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal today escaped an attempt on life when militants indiscriminately fired bullets on his motorcade at Khepora in Baramula district, official sources said here.
