Chandigarh, August 14
The Punjab Governor, Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd), has forwarded the resignation of suspended PPSC Chairman Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu to the Punjab Government.

Official sources in the Punjab Raj Bhavan said today that Sidhu’s resignation had been sent to Chief Secretary Y.S. Ratra. The Governor would act on it after receiving the advice of the state government.

Sidhu’s term as Chairman is to end on September 13. He was suspended by the Governor on June 5 pending reference to the Supreme Court.

It may be mentioned here that Sidhu had offered to resign from the post on his own before the Supreme Court on August 12. His counsel, Mr K.T. S. Tulsi, had told the Supreme Court Bench, comprising Mr Justice S. Rajendra Babu, Mr Justice Ruma Lal and Mr Justice P.V. Reddi, on that day that his client wanted to resign from the post to “save the dignity of the constitutional post”.

The Supreme Court had then asked Mr Tulsi to file an affidavit in this regard before it by next Monday when the case would come up for hearing again.

The apex court has already issued notice to Sidhu on the Presidential reference seeking his removal from the constitutional post due to his alleged involvement in the PPSC recruitment scam.
