Rs 101-crore aid for Punjab

Chandigarh, August 7
The Government of India has sanctioned Rs 101 crore out of the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) for Punjab, Agriculture, Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said at a meeting of the state-level committee on drought and power here today.

Efforts were being made to manage power and water supply to the agriculture sector to meet the drought situation. A sum of Rs 5 crore had been released to the districts to ensure drinking water supply in the rural and urban areas affected by drought. The government was according top priority to the problems of border districts, where farmers’ tubewells were “powerless” because these were located in minefields. Such farmers also be compensated.
