IFTYTHREE years ago, when Ram Lal Nikhanj, accompanied by his wife Raj Kumari and his children, trudged into India from Sialkot, Pakistan, facing the uphill task of re-building his life, little did he realise that Kapil Dev, their little Kuku, born in modern India, would re-write cricketing history and would be one of biggest sporting icons and the most recognised face of the country.

ROM a list of 16 nominees, the Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century was chosen on July 23 in London. Wisden selected a jury made up of 35 international cricketers, journalists, broadcasters and analysts, who had each been asked to submit a shortlist of five names, marking one as their choice of the Indian Cricketer of the Century.
