Mr. Paramjit Singh Sarna, the recently elected president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, today accused his predecessor, Mr. Avtar Singh Hit, SAD (Badal) group, of trying to “hijack the Guru Nanak Public School in Hari Nagar which was the scene of armed confrontation between the two Akali factions on Tuesday.

Heroin worth Rs 1 cr seized; five held

The Murad Nagar police have arrested five criminals, including a woman, and recovered one kg heroin from them after an encounter in a broad daylight in Bheekanpur village.

Confidence tricksters’ gang busted, three held

With the arrest of three persons the Kirti Nagar police today claimed to have nabbed a gang of cheats who used to gain entry when women were alone at their homes. They used to carry a powder that would make gold and silver jewellery glitter to gain the confidence of women.

FOCUTA lends support to DUTA strike

The Delhi University Teachers Association has called for a strike on Monday, in protest against the UGC and the Ministry of Human Resource Development moves to increase teachers’ workload, declare 35 per cent staff as excess, allow 80 per cent of posts to be filled on temporary basis, freeze new recruitment, impose 10 per cent cut in staff strength and abolish all posts older than one year.

Holders Delhi Division downed Morabadad Division 2-0 to roll into the semi-final of the Northern Railway Inter-Division Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on Saturday. DJB says encroachers are causing water pollution
New Delhi, August 3
The Delhi Jal Board put the blame on encroachers for contamination in the water distribution lines to Delhi Development Authority colonies. In an affidavit submitted before the Delhi High Court, the DJB Chief Engineer, Mr V. B. Jain, said interventions by encroachers on public land and residents of unauthorised colonies caused the contamination by means of illegal and unauthorised connections that were drawn from supply pipe lines.Top
