Langah has ‘made no confession’ Chandigarh, August 1 Mr Lakhanpal, who claimed that he met Langah, twice in the past two days, said that Langah had not signed a single confessional statement so far. He had not named Mr Parkash Singh Badal or any of his family members in any manner. Mr Lakhanpal said that Langah had told him that he (Langah) never travelled on a “fake” passport to any part of the world. The statement made by the bureau in this connection was incorrect, Mr Ranjanpal asserted, speaking on behalf of Langah in the presence of Mrs Harbhajan Kaur and her daughter Ms Sarabjit Kaur. “What has been attributed to Langah by the bureau in the past two days is a concocted story”, he added. The bureau was unable to produce a single document to prove that “benami” property the list of which was released by the bureau, belonged to Langah, he added. He said in fact the main target of the bureau was Mr Parkash Singh Badal. All statements released by the bureau have one way or the other named Mr Badal. The case against Langah pertains to holding assets disproportionate to his known sources of income . But the bureau was more interested in asking him about his relations with terrorists and Wassan Singh Zaffarwal. Secondly, though no case of adultery has been registered against Langah the bureau was linking him with several women.Mrs Harbhajan Kaur said that she had no complaints against her husband. “He is an amritdhari Sikh and can't have relations with other women,” she asserted. “All allegations levelled by the bureau against her husband about his relations with women were wrong and aimed to tarnish the image of the family,” she added. Mr Lakhanpal said Wassan Singh Zaffarwal remained in police custody for a month after his arrest. Why at that time the police did not disclose that Zaffarwal had links with Langah. Moreover, when all this was not a part of the FIR why did the bureau issue statements alleging Langah’s relations with women and terrorists, he asked. Mr Lakhanpal said that the bureau started releasing press statements against Langah after Mr Badal made an attempt to know about the physical wellbeing of Langah when he was taken to hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the defamation suit filed by Mrs Harbhajan Kaur, wife of former minister Sucha Singh Langah, against three top Vigilance Bureau officers, Mr A.P. Pandey, ADGP, Mr B.K. Uppal, DIG, Vigilance Bureau, and Mr S.P. Singh, SP — came up for hearing in court of the UT Judicial Magistrate (First Class) here today. The court adjourned the case till September 5 to record the statement of the complainant. |
Police remand for Langah Kharar, August 1 Mr Jatinderjit Singh Punn, public prosecutor, and Mr Gurmakh Singh, DSP, Vigilance, appeared in the court and pleaded for seven days’ police remand of Langah. Mr Punn alleged that the accused had prepared a fake passport and travelled abroad and till now the passport had not been recovered. He said the accused went to the USA and Canada and met many persons, including Jagdish Singh, Devinder Singh, Gurjit Singh, Karnail Singh, Nirmal Sangha, and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and the prosecution was yet to get information from him about these persons and their backgrounds. He said information was yet to be obtained about his overseas links. He said the Vigilance Bureau had already written to the passport authorities about the passport of Langah. The defence counsel, Mr A.S. Sukhija, opposed the demand of police remand of Langah and alleged that the Vigilance Bureau was not following the orders of the court. He alleged that his client was again taken to Chandigarh by the bureau during night. Mr Sukhija openly attacked Mr A.P. Pandey, chief of the Vigilance Bureau, and alleged that Mr Pandey was party to the “crime” of terrorist Zaffarwal’s “managed surrender”. He said Mr Pandey knew better than Langah about Zaffarwal. He alleged that Mr Pandey had no right to interrogate Langah and was playing a double role, adding that he was a biased man. Mr Ranjan Lakhanpal, another counsel of Langah, also opposed the demand of police remand and said it was no crime if Mr Langah had gone abroad and met some persons. The court ordered that Mr Langah should be provided all medical facilities and fans should be provided in the room where he slept. Tight security arrangements were made by the police here today. |
Defamation suit filed Chandigarh, August 1 The court adjourned the case till September 5 to record the statement of the complainant. She has alleged in the suit that the Vigilance Bureau officials has issued a press note which appeared in all leading newspapers. The press note stated that Langah was having illicit relations with some women and helping them financially. It was also stated that Langah was having relations with a woman of Rahon, besides having “warm relationship” with a resident of Batala and some other women. She said by doing so, the Vigilance Bureau had tarnished the image of Langah and the complainant, who is his legally wedded wife. |
