Advani says J&K internal matter
No to foreign election observers
New Delhi, August 1
India today rejected the US suggestion for allowing international observers in Jammu and Kashmir during the forthcoming Legislative Assembly poll, asserting that they had no role to play in it as the state was an internal matter of the country.

Poll Bill: parties meet today
New Delhi, August 1
The Vajpayee government has called an all-party meeting here tomorrow to evolve a consensus on a draft bill drawn up by the Law Ministry to replace the Election Commission guidelines to check criminalisation of politics.

Capt loses life in gunbattle
Jammu, August 1
Four militants and a Captain were killed in a night-long gunbattle between the security forces and militants in Rajouri. The police said a group of militants stormed the complex housing offices and residences of senior government functionaries at D.C. Colony in the heart of the town last night.

Bhajan Lal to make minor changes

The new Haryana Congress chief, Mr Bhajan Lal, today said minor changes would be in the PCC and he would strive to end groupism in the party’s state unit. “I will strengthen the Congress and talk to all leaders to end groupism,’’ Mr Bhajan Lal told The Tribune here.

Ten activists of various Sikh organisations arrested yesterday at Malout released on bail today by the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Ms Sukhwinder Kaur, after the police withdrew charges relating to attempt to murder and use of firearms made out against them in an FIR registered yesterday.
