Tapes expose Sanjay-Shakeel links

Mumbai, July 29
Tapes in which conversation between Chhota Shakeel, the Karachi-based underworld don, and film star Sanjay Dutt, producer Harish Sugandh and directors Mahesh Manjrekar and Sanjay Gupta was recorded in December, 2000, were released by the police here on Monday.

This reveals the Bollywood-gangster nexus in a foolproof manner. During his conversation from a hotel in Nasik, started by himself, the actor asked for a chip or a mobile phone SIM card:

Sanjay Dutt: Bhai, that chip was about to come

Shakeel: Yes, yes.

Sanjay: It’s coming in tomorrow now.

Shakeel: Ok, Ok.

Sanjay: Yes.

Shakeel: Should I send them?

Sanjay: Yes, please send it.

Shakeel: Should I send the Dubai one?

Sanjay: Yes.

This tape has been submitted as evidence in the Bharat Shah case. Govinda and Hrithik Roshan are also mentioned in the dialogue, casting a shadow of peril on the latter’s life. It also shows how information is bought and sold.

Sanjay: That Govinda is a big fool.

Shakeel: Yes, yes.

Sanjay: He just doesn’t come, though I’m working with him.

Shakeel: Yes, yes.

Sanjay: This is a 9 o’clock job and he turns up for work at 2 pm.

Shakeel: Really, no what? Is it on the Jodi Number Do?

Sanjay: Yes Bhai.

Shakeel: Ok.

Sanjay: Yes.

Shakeel: Ok, but he will come on time on our project.

Sanjay: (laughs) Bhai, should I say something?

Shakeel: Yes.

Sanjay: It’s about that Chikna (Hrithik Roshan).

Shakeel: Yes, yes.

Sanjay: He called up Karisma and abused and threatened her. What is this, Bhai?

Shakeel: Hmm.

Sanjay: You think about this, Bhai.

Shakeel: He’s not around for too many days now.

Sanjay: Ok.

Shakeel: Do you understand or not?.

Sanjay: Yes.

Shakeel: Just pray for this, we’re on the job.

Sanjay: Yes.

Shakeel: He’s not there for long, if he had come this time...

Sanjay: Yes.

Shakeel: Then you people could have taken this as the coming of some good news.

Sanjay: Absolutely, Bhai.

Shakeel: Did you understand or not?

Sanjay: Yes.

Shakeel: It would have been good news if he had come to meet you.

Sanjay: Yes.

Shakeel: Then we would have traced him, maybe by the second or third day.

In this half-an-hour conversation, Sanjay Gupta and Harish Sugandh too chipped in and director Mahesh Manjrekar even planned his next film.

Manjrekar: I want to make another film. Sanjay had told me that the film has to be based on your story.

Shakeel: Ok, ok. We’ll talk about this as soon as I’m free.

Manjrekar: 100 per cent, I really want this story.

Shakeel: Yes, yes, I will definitely give you some sequences.

Manjrekar: So far, all my films have been realistic ones. “Vaastav” was realistic, so were “Kurukshetra” and “Astitva”. I have to definitely make one film. ANI
