Centre to impose Governor’s rule in J&K

The Atal Behari Vajpayee government is understood to have decided in principle to impose Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir with a view to implementing its promise of holding free-and-fair Assembly elections, which are due this October.

The BJP General Secretaries Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley got the lion’s share of party work as President Venkaiah Naidu today allocated work to his new team and created a six-member group on “political management and social expansion” to prepare the party for the Assembly elections in 10 states due by early next year.

Panic gripped this temple-town today following the detection of a highly sophisticated timer device fitted at the roof of an HRTC bus on its way from Dharamsala to Shimla via Chandigarh. The device was possibly fitted by some pro-Pakistan militant, the police said here today.
