New Delhi, July 20
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw today met External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha for the second time in as many days and briefed him on his talks with Pakistan Foreign Minister Inamul Haq in Islamabad earlier in the day.

Mr Straw, who returned to New Delhi after a day’s visit to Pakistan, met Mr Sinha, who hosted a private dinner for him.

Yesterday, after his talks with Mr Sinha and National Security Adviser Brajesh Mishra, Mr Straw had said Pakistan needed to do more to permanently end intrusions into India from territories under its control.

In Pakistan today he said infiltration of militants from Pak-controlled territories into India had come down “significantly since May and we want to see a permanent end to it.”

He also stressed on the resolution of the Kashmir issue through diplomatic means.

“Diplomatic solution to the Kashmir issue was is the interest of both India and Pakistan. The key to resolving the Kashmir issue lies in the good diplomatic efforts,” he said.

“Tension on the Line of Control is now very low but the situation is difficult. International diplomatic efforts and decision taken by both countries have led to better situation and we hope that this process continues,” he said before leaving Pakistan for New Delhi.

During his talks with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Inamul Haq, Mr Straw said he also discussed progress on judicial cooperation, Pakistan-Britain Business Advisory Group and defence cooperation between the two countries.

Discussions were also held on British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s visit to Pakistan in January, he said.
