Yasin freed on bail, rearrested
Jammu, July 20 Malik had been arrested under POTA on March 25 for being a recipient of $ 1 lakh which the police had seized from two persons near Batote on March 23. The accused had told the police that the amount they had brought from Nepal was to be delivered to Malik. Yasin Malik had denied the charge. One of his friends, Dinesh Bhat, had filed an appeal seeking bail for Malik on health grounds. Bhat had furnished a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh before the Judge Mr P.N. Razdan, who released Malik on bail. Within minutes, fresh detention orders under the Public Safety Act, providing for detention for two years without a trial, were served on Malik. He was immediately whisked away to Kot Bhalwal Jail where he had already spent four months.Srinagar: The police here on Saturday lathi-charged and held several demonstrators protesting against the massacre of 28 labourers in Jammu last week, while senior Hurriyat leaders were kept under house arrest. The demonstrations were held in the Lal Chowk and Rajbagh areas, where the police moved to prevent demonstrators from taking out processions. Those held included the JKLF leader, Javed Ahmad Mir and Bilal Ghani Lone, near the Hurriyat office at Rajbagh when they attempted to hold a demonstration. Two other leaders of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) of Shabir Ahmad Shah were also held at Rajbagh. The police cane-charged a group of women who tried to take out a procession in the central Lal Chowk area here. Top Hurriyat leaders kept under house arrest included the chairman, Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat, former Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Moulvi Abbas Ansari. |
