Takht, SGPC on collision course? Amritsar, July 11 The sub-committee, comprising Mr Balwant Singh and Mr Jaswinder Singh — both members of the SGPC, would
initiate the inquiry. This step of the SGPC is likely to generate fresh controversy as it is for the first time that a case already decided by Akal Takht is being re-investigated. Sources close to Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar, Akal Takht, said the constitution of the committee could create unsavoury situation in the Sikh circles. It is pertinent to mention here that members of the Khalsa Panchayat had levelled serious charges against the Sikh clergy and the then personal assistant of Jathedar Vedanti for extending favour to Baba Dhanwant Singh. This was the reason that Mr Prithipal Singh Sandhu, the then PA to Jathedar Vedanti was shown the door by the SGPC on the pretext that he had attained the age of 60 years. The issue may be taken up in the crucial meetings of the Sikh clergy and the SGPC executive, scheduled for tomorrow. Members of the Khalsa Panchayat have been summoned by Akal Takht tomorrow with concrete proofs of “corruption” by the Sikh clergy. It may be mentioned here that after completing his punishment, Baba Dhanwant Singh has served a legal notice for claiming damages of Rs 1 crore against Gurdip Singh, a former sewadar of the dera. The complainant, Gurdip Singh had levelled serious allegations including womanising, against Baba Dhanwant Singh. The case of Baba Dhanwant Singh is likely to take a curious turn as the members of the Khalsa panchayat have been summoned at Akal Takht tomorrow. |
