Lightning kills 2 as rain lashes region

Chandigarh, June 16
Lightning claimed two lives in Hisar as a fresh spell of rain lashed parts of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal today, plummeting temperatures.

Two youths working in fields were killed when lightning struck them last evening at Gorakhpur village, about 35 km from Hisar, in Haryana, the police said.

Chandigarh and the surrounding areas had intermittent rain, leaving the city waterlogged.

According to the Meteorological Department here, more rain is likely in the region during the next 24 hours.

Reports of rain were also received from Ambala in Haryana and Amritsar in Punjab.

Shimla also received rain during the night.

This is the fourth spell of rain to have lashed the region since the beginning of this month. PTI
