New Delhi, June 7
Positive signals emanated during the course of talks the visiting US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage had with the top Indian leadership today, raising the hopes of easing of Indo-Pak tensions in the next 10 or 15 days.

India today described as “purely speculative” media reports that it proposed to launch strikes against terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir even as the intensity of artillery and mortar exchanges across the Line of Control and the international border came down further for the second consecutive day.

Cong ready for contest and consensus
New Delhi, June 7
The Congress today said it was prepared both for a “contest and consensus” on the presidential election. Congress chief spokesperson S Jaipal Reddy told reporters here that the party was not against consensus on the choice of next President.

Sidhu refuses to accept suspension order
Chandigarh, June 7
The suspended Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission, Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu, has refused to acknowledge the receipt of his suspension order. According to reliable sources, the orders of the Governor were sent to him through a team of vigilance officials, doctors and a duty magistrate at the Patiala jail where he is at present lodged.

Nain doesn’t trust Chautala

The current BKU-Haryana Government stalemate is defying a solution as there seems to be a crisis of confidence. The BKU supremo, Mr Ghasi Ram Nain, has reportedly told certain mediators that he does not trust the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala.

CRPF to clear road blocks by farmers
Chandigarh, June 7
With the BKU not responding to appeals from the Haryana Government yesterday to come to the negotiating table, the government today indicated toughening of its stance as it announced that six companies of the CRPF were being brought to the state from Delhi to clear road blocks which were hindering the movement of Army vehicles.
