Ultras attack Police Lines, kill 3

Two policemen and two militants were killed and five policemen were wounded in an 18-hour gun battle between militants and the security forces on the district police lines of Doda today.

According to the police, two militants stormed police lines after killing the security guard on the entrance. Taking advantage of the dark night, they attacked the police lines late last night and opened indiscriminate firing, killing two policemen on the spot.

The later stormed into the canteen and remained holed up for the night. And from this morning, they started firing after an interval of 10 minutes.

Army and CRPF jawans were summoned to assist the police in eliminating the two ultras. The retaliation started this morning after the police authorities made sure that no policeman was in their custody. The security forces fired from different direction on the canteen. The building suffered partial damage.

The police said last night militants hurled a grenade when policemen were extricating the two bodies. In the grenade attack one policeman was killed and five were wounded.

In another incident, militants opened indiscriminate firing on a BSP patrol party that had gone to the Mahore area of Udhampur for flushing out the rebels. Two BSF jawans were killed in the attack. In Thanamandi area of Rajouri another group of militants ambushed a police party and killed a policeman and a woman SPO.

Reports from Rajouri district said militants last night barged into the house of Mohiddin in Saz village and shot dead two of his relatives and injured another.

A woman was injured when militants attempted to attack a police party at Gool in Udhampur last evening.

A hardcore Lashkar-e-Toiba ultra was shot dead by the security forces in a fierce encounter at Gursai area in Poonch district this afternoon.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Dr Kamal Saini said acting on a tip-off that some ultras have entered the Gursai area, police and BSF personnel launched a joint operation to flush them out. When the securitymen reached their target area, they were fired upon by the ultras.

In the ensuing encounter the ultra was shot dead while others managed to escape into the thick jungles. One AK-56 rifle, four magazines, 60 live cartridges, four hand grenades, two rifle grenades and one wireless set were seized.

Srinagar: At least six persons, including five militants, were killed and two civilians injured in separate incidents in Kashmir since Wednesday. The security forces averted a major tragedy with the timely detection of an IED here on Wednesday while three suspects were apprehended during search operations.

Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the Army at Bulgam on the Srinagar-Uri highway near Baramula on Wednesday. The encounter ensued when the hiding militants opened fire on a search party. The house in which the militants were hiding was damaged in the exchange of fire between the militants and the security forces.

A body was retrieved while the body of another militant was recovered from the debris this morning. Sources said that a militant was apprehended in an injured condition.

BSF personnel averted a major tragedy with the detection of an IED fitted in a tiffin box at Gole Market, Karan Nagar here on Wednesday.

Two pedestrians were injured when militants lobbed a grenade towards a security forces vehicle at Idgah on Wednesday. The grenade missed the target and exploded on the road causing injuries to two pedestrians, the police here said.

A militant was killed in an encounter with the security forces at Sumler near Bandipore in Baramula district on Thursday.

Another militant, Ghulam Hassan, alias Hassan Kamal, of Hizb-ul Mujahideen was killed in an encounter with the Army and SOG at Bulgam near Sopore in Baramula district today. An AK rifle, and some ammunition were recovered from the slain militant, the police here said.

A militant of Al-Badre outfit was killed in an encounter with the security forces at Badubagh, Handwara in Kupwara district on Wednesday militants shot dead a former militant at Mirgund in Baramula district on Wednesday.
