The Governor, Mr Girish Chander Saxena, administered the oath of office to the new Chief Justice at the swearing-in ceremony at the Raj Bhavan today. The Registrar of the high court read out the warrant and notification issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan in this regard.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdullah flew to New Delhi today to apprise the Prime Minister of the latest situation in the wake of yesterday’s attack by militants near Jammu.

Replying to questions, he said there was continued intrusion from across the border, adding that militants “continue to come in and kill innocents”. He opined that there was a need to further enhance the deployment of troops along the border.

Expressing serious concern over yesterday’s attack, the Chief Minister said the infiltrators indulged in killings of innocents. They did not even spare a two-month-old boy that shows what type of animals we have to deal with”, he commented.

Referring to the fight against terrorism the Chief Minister said, “I think we have to take all those countries into confidence and put this matter before them”, Dr Abdullah pointed out.

In reply to a question on the killing of members of National Conference, he said, “we have to face it... we cannot escape”. He said adequate security measures were being taken to provide safety and security to the political personalities, but it was physically impossible to provide security to every individual.
