Natwar’s daughter commits suicide New Delhi, May 9 According to family sources, the incident occurred even as a prayer meeting of the Chinmaya Mission was in progress in the house. While the police was reluctant to comment, sources said she had probably hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room around 5 p.m. Mr Natwar Singh who initially appeared composed but distraught as he was consoled by his party colleagues later complained of uneasiness and was being treated by a team of doctors from Escorts Heart Centre which was rushed to the residence. Dr Rajiv Kasliwal, a heart specialist from the Institute, later told mediapersons that Mr Singh had felt uneasiness but there was no chest pain. ‘‘He is fine...he had felt physical duress.’’ He had undergone a bypass surgery some time back. He has been under Dr Kasliwal’s treatment. The alleged suicide comes barely one-and-a-half months after the mysterious death of her estranged sister-in-law Natasha Singh, who was found dead on the first floor terrace garden of the Hyatt Regency hotel here on March 17. While the police is yet to give its final verdict, investigators are veering around to the view that she had committed suicide by jumping from the seventh floor terrace of the hotel. The police said that the body was being sent for a post-mortem and further inquiries were being conducted to ascertain the cause. Ritu Singh was single and staying with her parents. Among those who were first to reach the residence of the senior Congress leader were party President Sonia Gandhi, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amrinder Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Dr Karan Singh. |
