Bathinda, May 7
In an important decision, which can have far reaching consequences on the development of the state, the Punjab Government has imposed a ban on granting capital and interest subsidy to new and existing industrial units, respectively. The government has already withdrawn the facility of sale tax exemption to new units about two years ago.

Official sources said the government had taken this decision as it had been facing an acute financial crisis.

Mr T.R. Sarangal, Director, Industries and Commerce, said he had given instructions, banning the disbursement of capital and interest subsidy.
